LESSON 7 OF 7 · 5 MINUTES

Watch competitors without guessing

Watch what you can actually see: who AI answers name instead of you, and what your rivals publish.

Many SEO tools show a rival's traffic as a single number. Nobody outside that company knows their traffic, so the number is an estimate, and you cannot check it.

What you can see

  • Who AI answers name when they do not name you, for the questions your buyers ask.
  • New pages in a rival's sitemap, which is what they decided to publish.
  • Changes to their homepage title and description, which is how they describe themselves this month.

What to do with it

If one rival keeps getting named for a question, read what they published about it. Then write the better answer, in your voice, using lessons 2 and 3. You are back at the start of the course, which is how it is meant to work.

EASIEST WAY

Competitors shows who AI answers named instead of you in the latest run, and reads up to five rival sites every Monday: new pages, homepage changes and llms.txt, each shown before and after.

DO IT YOURSELF

Ask ChatGPT and Perplexity your three main buyer questions once a week and note who they name. Open each rival's sitemap.xml once a month and compare it with last month's copy.

Do it now

  1. Ask one AI tool your top buyer question.
  2. Write down who it names.
  3. Open your main rival's sitemap.
  4. Pick one question to answer better than they do.

Quick answers

How many competitors should I watch?

Three to five. More than that and you will stop reading the list.

Can I see their rankings?

Not honestly. Anyone showing you a rival's exact traffic is estimating it.
